Our Travel Smart week takes place each May and October. This is where we encourage pupils to make the most of their school journey as a way to help them keep fit, beat traffic jams and pollution, as well making sure they remember to travel safely too.

21 - 25 October 2019

As part of this year's Travel Smart campaign for 21 to 25 October 2019, pupils will be encouraged to ‘step back in time’ and choose more active and environmentally friendly ways to travel smart to school.

As part of the week, pupils can use bikes, scooters and tricycles to travel to school and follow some suggested history based themes for each day such as a ‘walk like an Egyptian’ - Wednesday or ‘spinning around with Victorians on velocipedes' - Thursday.

A poster and leaflets are currently being despatched via area mail to those schools who have taken part in our previous Travel Smart campaigns.

Any school which has not taken part in Travel Smart week before, but who would now like to take part, should email the sustainable travel team with the number of children on roll and the number of classes in school.

There is also an opportunity for schools to enter a prize draw to win some scooter storage by sharing their Travel Smart week activities with us at the sustainable travel team via email or on Twitter
