A sub group of the Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Partnership working with partners to help safeguard children in Derbyshire schools and education settings.

This group has been meeting since September 2015. It has an active membership of local authority, academy and private independent schools and colleges. It also has panel members representing key stakeholders and partners, such as health, police, and social care.

The group aims to keep children and young people safe in Derbyshire schools and colleges, and make a difference by:

  • Raising standards in schools and colleges, including independent, free schools and academies by achieving excellence in line with the council's and Children's Services' goals.
  • Assisting all schools including independent, free schools and academies to be fully compliant with DfE and Ofsted requirements, in being up to date with statutory regulations and guidance as directed by central government.
  • Assisting all schools, education settings and further education settings to carry out their statutory or local duties and powers in relation to keeping children safe.
  • Assisting with the development, implementation and monitoring of any new Derbyshire County Council or Derby City safeguarding procedures, regulations and initiatives.
  • Assisting Derbyshire Constabulary, health, external partners and agencies with the endorsement and promotion of campaigns and initiatives to help improve the work of safeguarding children within all schools, education settings and further education settings.
  • Reporting to the Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Partnership on any critical issues and concerns arising within all schools, education settings or further education settings.
  • Reporting on significant changes and developments in school governance and assess for any impact for all schools, education settings or further education settings.
  • Identifying and encouraging best practice through information sharing amongst all schools, education settings and further education settings. This includes showcasing good practice through the use of case studies, reflective discussion and producing good practice models.
  • Producing a quarterly report to the DDSCP and Public Protection on the activities of the group.
  • Producing an annual report to the DDSCP on the findings of the S175 School and College Safeguarding Audit.
