A guide for new head teachers and designated safeguarding leads - updated January 2020.
Here you will find everything you will need to be an effective Designated Safeguarding Lead and a successful leader in safeguarding within your school.
As a new Designated Safeguarding Lead we have specific helpful guides and documents to get you started:
Interactive guidance for all new Head teachers in Derbyshire and those who have the role of a Designated Safeguarding Lead within the school. This has been produced by members of the Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (DDSCP) Education Sub-Committee.
It is an easy step by step guide that also takes you to the essential documents and tools using hyperlinks. In addition to this, there is a calendar to help navigate through the academic year and safeguarding activities in a checklist format.
A presentation which can be used as a PowerPoint explaining the framework of Child Protection Safeguarding in Schools, this is useful for training Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads, as well as all staff, governors and volunteers in schools.
The latest Headteachers Safeguarding Briefing. Each term you will receive a safeguarding briefing which highlights news, national and local developments, changes and updates from Derbyshire Children's Services, and partner agencies such as Police and Health.
For training information and available courses visit the Services 4 Schools website where all training events and booking information can be found for schools and school settings.
We will also include forthcoming details for the annual school safeguarding conference and the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) School Forums which run every autumn and spring to bring you up to date with the latest changes from the DfE, Ofsted and emerging school issues.
The Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Partnership have updated the training available for all partners, and also provide a useful competency framework for staff with regard to required and recommended training for school staff.
