The recently released year 2 phonics autumn 2021 outcomes for all Derbyshire children and disadvantaged (provisional) has exceeded national averages. This significant milestone reverses a previous trend of performance below national benchmarks.
We wish to continue to support all schools and are requesting phonics year 1 summer predictions in your plenary feedback at forthcoming locality meetings from Tuesday 8 February 2022 so that we can proactively identify and offer support to schools.
Phonics remains a high priority for Derbyshire children as illustrated by the phonics school support programme launched in October 2021. Derbyshire Local Authority is working in collaboration with key partners, Derbyshire Teaching School Hubs, English Hubs, Research Schools Network and Learners First, to deliver a programme of support for those schools facing the most significant barriers to ensuring that every child becomes a reader.
