Derbyshire Libraries would like to invite all your pupils to take part in this year's Reading Agency Summer Reading Challenge – 'Read to the Beat'.
- Date(s)
- 4 July - 12 September 2026
- Description
This year’s theme encourages children to feel the rhythm of words and the joy of reading - celebrating the connection between storytelling and sound.
The challenge begins on Saturday 4 July and ends on Saturday 12 September 2026.
As well as the challenge, Derbyshire Libraries will be running many free activities to complement this year’s theme. Please ask at your local library or visit the Derbyshire County Council website for more information. You can also email Ask.library@derbyshire.gov.uk.
As ever, we hope as many of your students as possible will join the challenge, which helps support their reading during the summer holidays, and celebrates reading for pleasure. Those completing the challenge will receive a medal and certificate and we would encourage teachers to invite children to bring these into school in September.
More information is available on the School Zone area of the Summer reading Challenge website. You can find an assembly presentation to download to help promote ‘Read to the Beat’ to your pupils, and many other resources linked to the challenge.
If schools would like any further information, please email Ask.library@derbyshire.gov.uk or contact your local library.
Derbyshire Libraries wishes you all a very happy summer and looks forward to welcoming the children to our libraries, encouraging them to ‘Read to the Beat’!
