The Department for Education (DfE) collates both suspension and permanent exclusion data from every local authority (LA).
The DfE has standardised the exclusion reason codes and descriptions.
Derbyshire's LA needs to collect information from all schools including:
- maintained
- academies
- free schools
- alternative provision academies
- support centres
To draw comparisons on a local and national level there needs to be standardised reasons for exclusion. On a local level this information is used to target support and resources whilst central government looks at patterns and trends of exclusion across the country as a whole.
Therefore in order to assist schools in recording exclusions the reasons for exclusion document attached to this page may be useful. It gives a list of main reasons and sub categories, under each main reason which may help clarify what types of behaviour fit in each category.
