This section explains our procedures for when a child is withdrawn from school to be educated at home.

Derbyshire Local Offer has useful information about EHE for parents and carers:

EHE parent information 2 minute read
EHE resources for 5 to 11 years
EHE resources for 11 to 16 years

The latest version of the Elective Home Education (EHE) policy is available on the Derbyshire County Council website.

Deregistration

To deregister a child from school, schools must now complete a digital form, which is accessed via Derbyshire County Council’s online self-service portal. (If you don’t already have an account, it’s essential that all relevant school staff register before attempting to access the deregistration form). Full details, including the portal registration link and the link to the deregistration form, can be accessed via the locked document attached to this page.

Please note that the deregistration process requires sign-off by one of the following members of the school’s senior leadership team:

  • Headteacher
  • Deputy Head / Assistant Head
  • SENDCo (Special Educational Needs & Disability Coordinator)
  • DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead)

The old Word version of the deregistration form is no longer in use, and we no longer accept deregistration documents via Perspective Lite, secure email or post.

If your school has any queries about elective home education, please contact the team via email: cs.ehe@derbyshire.gov.uk
