Prevent aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
Prevent is part of the government's CONTEST Strategy aimed at protecting people and communities from the threat of terrorism. The Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a duty on several agencies including schools, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard for the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism. This is called the Prevent Duty and the Prevent Duty for schools.
We recognise that schools are in an important position to identify the early signs to safeguard and protect children and young people. To this end, we have developed an Extremism and Radicalisation Model Policy for schools. We are recommending that all schools now adopt this policy as there is additional focus on the subject in the updated Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. Safer Derbyshire is a multi-agency partnership based at County Hall, Matlock. Its aim is to reduce crime, disorder and the fear of crime in Derbyshire, by providing support, advice and leadership to partners and communities.

Various types of counter terrorism training, including free Prevent training for Derbyshire schools, colleges, and residential settings is also available. Derbyshire County Council employees must complete mandatory Prevent training every two years.

ACT Early is a website to support friends and family who may be worried about someone close. It features information to help spot the signs, support and some real-life stories about how people and their families have gone through the Prevent process.
The London Grid for Learning (LGfL) has published resources on counter-extremism and preventing radicalisation in schools. The resources, developed in collaboration with the DfE, the Home Office and school practitioners and extremism experts, are designed to help staff safeguard pupils from extremism as part of the Prevent duty. It includes videos on topics including: the grooming process, a whole-school approach and understanding vulnerability.
Hope Not Hate looks to challenge all kinds of extremism, but is focussed on the organised far right. This website has several resources for schools to use.
