BBC Radio Derby will be celebrating the legacy of Colin Bloomfield this April which sadly marks the 10th anniversary of Colin’s death to melanoma skin cancer.
With 90% of skin cancer cases being preventable, Colin was a huge advocate for preventative education and as such, he nominated SKCIN and their national Sun Safe Schools accreditation programme as the appeal's chosen charity. In memory of Colin, we are revisiting the huge success of the campaign and urging all primary schools who are not yet registered with the Sun Safe Schools programme to get involved and on-board!
The first 100 schools in the region to renew or complete their first on-line annual accreditation before 31 May 2025, will be eligible to receive a FREE 1 Litre sunscreen cartridge and dispenser by emailing their certificate of accreditation to: louise.tucker@skcin.org
The programme is completely FREE. It provides all the resources a school needs to fulfil their duty of care to safeguard children against UV, and educate pupils about sun safety and skin cancer prevention, which forms part of the PHSE curriculum.
Radio Derby is really excited about the initiative which will form part of a wider campaign planned for the benefit of the Derbyshire and East Staffordshire community.
