School Zone is a comprehensive schools programme, with new curriculum-linked resources available on the School Zone dedicated website for teachers.
School Zone
The School Zone resources help pupils to explore what's in their food, and how to make healthier food and drink swaps using the NHS Food Scanner app.
Teachers can now download these resources to use in the classroom.
Resources include:
- curriculum-linked activities toolkits for KS1 and KS2, with a range of activities to help children explore what's in their food and drink, and to make healthier swaps
- an interactive assembly with a fun NHS Food Scanner app demo
- a Sugar Smart parent pack - a great way to engage parents and help them think about simple ways to help their children eat less sugar
- a swaps leaderboard to help track class swaps and compete against each other to win the most swaps
- the sharing with families toolkit, to enable schools to spread the word about the NHS Food Scanner app with parents
E-Bug
This lesson supports children to learn how to brush their teeth and to understand that we brush our teeth at least twice a day to avoid tooth decay.
Lesson plans are available from e-Bug for EYS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 for Oral Hygiene, which covers sugar and tooth decay.
Better Health Childhood Obesity
Better Health Childhood Obesity supports families to make healthier choices and to eat better and move more. A full range of digital and printed resources are available for partners, including posters, leaflets, social media toolkits, digital screens and web banners.
There is a range of 10 minute shake up resources to encourage children to get active.
Also provided is a children's healthier eating toolkit, which contains 10 different activities to help you support families to make positive changes to their diet, with a particular focus on making healthier swaps. The activities are easy to run with children aged 4 to 11, requiring minimal preparation and no expert knowledge.
