b_line is the cut-price travel discount and library card for young people aged 11 to 21 years old in Derbyshire.

The cards are targeted at young people in college, university, on training courses or in an apprenticeship, provided they live in Derbyshire.

Types of b_line card

b_line 1,  2, and 3 cards are free to apply for.

There are 3 types of b_line cards.

  • b_line1 card for 11-year-olds (in secondary school) up to their 16th birthday
  • b_line2 card for 16-year-olds up to their 19th birthday
  • b_line3 card for people aged 19-21 years old (a pilot scheme due to run to 31 December 2025).

b_line cards are no longer issued automatically. If you/your child wants a card, applications must be made online. Before starting an application, please read the instructions on the form to make sure everything needed to make an application is available.

Requests for replacement cards can also be made. If a replacement is needed for a damaged or lost card, replacement cards for b_line 1 and 2 are £5, and £10 for b_line 3.

Using a b_line card

A b_line card gives £1.50 maximum single fares on local buses throughout Derbyshire and to some nearby towns and cities as long as the journey is direct and starts or finishes in Derbyshire.

A b_line1 card can be used to prove that you/your child qualify for a £1.50 max single fare or the bus or train company's own discounted ticket.

With a b_line2 card, you/your child can get the £1.50 max single fare as well as some saver tickets.

A b_line3 card gives £1.50 max single fares on local buses throughout Derbyshire and to some nearby towns and cities as long as the journey is direct and starts or finishes in Derbyshire.

To get the discounted fare, scan the card on the reader and pay the £1.50 fare.

b_line is now available on Mango, which means single fares are capped at £1.50 and can be used on Trent Barton, Kinch buses, TM travel and Notts & Derby services.
