Local authority employees can sign up to our salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme − and earn a tax-free bike.

Through the Cycle to Work scheme, you make a monthly payment direct from your salary, and in return, you save on income tax and national insurance on the bike and equipment up to the value of £3,000. Plus there's the added benefit of keeping fit.

You can choose your bike from any local shop or dealer who is taking part in the scheme.

You need to be over 18 and have an employment contract for a minimum of a year. You must also agree that 50% of the bike’s use will be for commuting or work-related journeys.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cycle to Work scheme is not open to employees in academy schools. However an individual Trust can set up its own scheme and so academy school employees will need to enquire with their relevant Academy Trust to see if they also offer the same or a similar scheme.

Secure cycle parking, clothing lockers and shower and changing rooms are offered at some work bases and schools, and we continue to look at rolling out facilities at other sites.

A cycle route planner can be found on the Derbyshire County Council website.

The Cycle to Work scheme can also form part of your Modeshift STARS school travel plan.
