Partners across Derby and Derbyshire are supporting the fourth national Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness week from 18 - 24 November (postponed from 1 -7 July 2024, due to the general election).

The theme for the 2024 campaign is '#MakingCommunitiesSafer', but each day will have a specific theme, for example, Partnerships, Victims, Community Heroes, Young People, Health).

Contrary to common perceptions, a lot of ASB is caused by adults rather than young people and there is national evidence to suggest that young people spend their time in larger groups and wear hoods/face coverings because it helps them to feel safe. Locally, we’ve produced a myth buster to address misconceptions around different aspects of ASB.

A number of schools are already working with the local Police Safer Neighbourhood/Youth Engagement Teams, and the community safety teams from the local authority, to run specific ASB sessions and activities.

Here are some examples of how you can get involved during ASB Awareness Week and beyond.

During the week, it would be great if you could look out for Facebook posts from Derbyshire Police and share any that are appropriate for your audience.

Help us raise awareness of Derbyshire ASB Hub, which is a one-stop shop for information about ASB, with your parents.

The police offer free inputs to primary and secondary school students about anti-social behaviour.  If you would like to arrange a session, please use the Contact Us form on the police website, detailing your school address and indicating you want to contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team to ensure it gets to the right team.

Primary schools can work with the police, through the Mini Police Project, which helps children learn about their safety, their role within their community and how the police work to keep them safe. Use the form on the police website to register your interest.

Use "Got Your Back" resources to raise awareness of the free and confidential support service for young people, who have been a victim of crime or ASB. Email: support@dvssupport.org

Book a "Got Your Back ASB" Workshop, which is available for a classroom sized group or 1-1 with a young person (6 sessions). This interactive workshop enables young people to develop understanding about what ASB is, the consequences and where to get help if they have been a victim. Contact Chelsea Lambert for more information about the workshop and costs. Email: chelsea.lambert@dvssupport.org
